Chicago Sculpture International
about the project
Chicago Sculpture International is a community of over 100 artists. They needed a place to organize Members, Exhibitions, and Workshops. They also wanted the ability to showcase Member portfolios and allow them to pay to join through the website. One other request was a place for anyone to Donate to the non-profit organization.
After a bit of digging, I found a fantastic service: MemberFindMe. For a reasonable monthly fee they could get all of the features they wanted, and the service included a WordPress Plugin to connect directly to their website. The results are seamless.
On this responsive website, their home page features a rotating image gallery and two links to featured events that they can easily edit in the backend. It also includes a place for Members to sign in, and inviting links to Join or Donate. A MailChimp form is tucked in the footer for anyone that wants to be a part of their newsletter.
Once inside, the Exhibitions & Events page shows a full calendar of events categorized in detail. There are also “Member Only” Events that only show to Members once they are logged in.
An impressive Publicity section shows a history of their more notable work. A page listing Members not only showcases the talents of their collection of artists but allows each Artist to curate their own profile in the backend: from social media links, to a bio, to photos of their work, and even choosing what contact information they want publicly displayed. Giving Members access to edit their own profiles was imperative for this volunteer-run organization.
words from Chicago Sculpture
"The website is a more comprehensive location for organization information: Our calendar, members, and social media are directly linked together making communication more succinct. Our branded image is getting more consistent by using the website as a model for other design areas.
The website is easier for the board to manage member content. The website user is responsible for adding their own content which allows the board to focus on more pressing matters than updating images for 100 users. Members are slowly starting to get used to our new method, however the transition for board members has been easy.
You were a pleasure to work with. I sincerely appreciate your patience in working with a group of people (with differing opinions). You took direction from our comments and it reflected with an end-product that meets our specific needs."
- Emily Moorhead ( Board President )
"I love the fact that members enter their own images and info. Keeps them as up to date as they are committed to being. I think the site looks great too! Also, much easier to use."
- Donna Hapac (VP of Programming)
"Very attractive, a breeze to use."
- Chris Perri (Outdoor Exhibtions Committee Co-Chair)
"Great design and easy to navigate."
- Jill King-Wynn (Education Committee Chair)
